Yesterday I worked backstage at BET’s Rip The Runway. A gig I came across through the GroundCrew, I actually got a chance to work along side my PR client, Mary Lafayette of Fashion Luv Joenz. The show, hosted by Chris Brown and Ciara, was taped yesterday and will air on BET on the 14th.
It was definitely hectic backstage. There were 9 designers/brands participating in the show and a ridiculous amount of male, female and child models. Participating in this year’s Rip the Runway were Jordan Brand, Apple Bottoms, Mychael Knight, Monif C., LRG, Steve Harvey (folks he has a nice suit line for big and tall men), Ande Sew, Amaya Swimwear and G-Unit. Mary and I, along with celebrity stylist Shanita, worked the Apple Bottoms segment.
With 24 looks and about 22 models as well as 3 red carpet looks, it was a little hectic in the Apple Bottoms corner. Some of the models we dressed included America’s Next Top Models Bre (such a sweetheart, reminds me of a friend from school) and Jade (a lot nicer than how she was portrayed on the show), “pin up” model/actress Sincerely Ward, video vixen Abeba Davis and red carpert models Angela Simmons, Julissa (106th and Park host) and Brooke Hogan (another sweetheart who spent sometime with myself and a few other dressers at the Apple Bottoms corner).
Nelly, Paul Wall, 50 Cent, and others performed live during the show which was taped before a live audience at the famed Hammerstein Ballroom. Other celebrities in attendance included Rakim, three more Top Models: Tocarra (who modeled for Mychael Knight), Nik (I believe she was modeling for Jordan Brand), Danielle (who also modeled for Mychael Knight),Teresa Weatherspoon (NY Liberty/ LA Sparks) and more.
This was a whole day event between rehearsals and the actual taping. I arrived at 10 am and didn’t leave the venue until 11!
The afterparty followed at Guest House where Mary and I met up with male model Travis Jackson. I got a chance to chat up Chris Brown and others before leaving out for the night.
