CREATING ZEN IN BROOKLYN
OMALA Launches Flagship Store In The Heart of Brooklyn
BROOKLYN, NY– May 17, 2007– Omala (www.omalausa.com), the New York-based yoga-inspired active wear line, announced today the opening of its flagship store in Brooklyn, New York. The retail space will feature fashionable, feminine, sporty and functional clothing made of breathable bamboo, meryl nylon and cotton blends. In addition Omala will carry a broad selection of high-quality yoga and Pilates accessories, props, organic body products, and home decor pieces. All product has been explicitly designed and hand-selected to inspire and support women to lead active, healthy and well-balanced lives. The official grand opening will take place June 7th through the 10th in the new boutique located at 400 Atlantic Avenue in the Cobble/Boerum Hill neighborhood.
“Omala is about making women feel good about who they are, supporting their pursuits to be active and fit, and ensuring they feel great about how they look,” says founder Kate Gaertner. “We want people to live better, feel better and be joyous about life – and we’re on a mission to make that happen.”
Founded by Kate Gaertner and her husband, Patraic, Omala was born out of necessity. While taking yoga classes, Kate noticed the difficulty in finding clothes that felt good going from the mat to the street. Patraic, a converted yogi, noticed a need for certain props and accessories that were not found at many studios or sporting good stores. Realizing there was a growing need in the market, the couple decided to create an active wear collection and store environment that embraced their lifestyle: versatile and stylish to support healthy, beautiful women in all their varied pursuits. The store was born to create a destination that provides for all one’s active lifestyle needs in a warm, rich and inviting environment.
Encompassing four days, OMALA’s grand opening events will be packed with guest speakers from the yoga, Pilates and fitness communities, a cocktail party, live DJs and photography exhibition in conjunction with the Atlantic Avenue Art Walk (www.artwalk07.com), which takes place during OMALA’s opening weekend.
Omala is a warm, retail destination for active, healthy individuals, yogis and Pilates practitioners who are looking for and wanting to live a better, more inspired life.
In 2005, the husband-and-wife founders created a private label collection of active wear for women, and launched their wholesale business and ecommerce website in 2006. In May 2007, the couple opened their first enlightened OMALA boutique in Brooklyn’s Cobble/Boerum Hill neighborhood.
The goal of Omala is to create a destination where individuals can go to meet all their active, lifestyle needs while supporting and promoting a healthy, fulfilled and well-balanced life.
