Also featured in the article was a piece from the Fall/Winter 2014 collection of Amalina Aman, an Australian based designer who is also a devout Muslim along side the amazing photography of New York-based fashion and lifestyle photographer, Jose Pagan.

Independent Woman Owned Film Company Set to Screen First Documentary, DIE, CRAZY, FAT
NEW YORK, NY—OCTOBER 2, 2014— America is a country obsessed with trends and fads in everything from fashion to beauty to healthy…even religion. According to industry experts, the health and wellness industry is gearing to be a trillion dollar business by 2017 with most of those dollars as a result of female purchasing power. Buona Donna Productions, an independent film company, takes a look at the journey of eight women on their quest to “healthy,” in the riveting new documentary DIE, CRAZY, FAT. Buona Donna will host a private screening on Thursday, October 30th at MIST Harlem in New York City.
“With America’s obsession with diet, exercise and its ever-growing misconceptions, I felt it was vitally important– especially for women– to understand the basics of good health,” said Buona Donna co-Founder, Tonya Conrad. “Faced with my own personal struggles, I wanted to expose the conflicting opinions in the medical and health industries and share insightful anecdotes that would allow others to determine for themselves the true meaning of healthy living; ultimately feeling inspired to take control of their own health.”
Co-founded by Tonya Conrad and Nichole “Nikki” Nichols, Buona Donna Productions is focused on creating films, programming and other media forums to enhance and enrich the lives of others through the exploration of complex issues that have an impact on their lives including race, class, gender, spirituality, sex and more. Through DIE, CRAZY, FAT, the duo takes a in depth look at physical and mental health, diet, body image and spirituality through the eyes of both themselves and six other women across a diverse spectrum of age, race, and marital status.
The event will begin with a cocktail reception to celebrate the completion of the documentary followed by the screening of the two hour long film. NEW YORK CITY— Brooklyn-based fashion brand, Amirah Creations, announced recently that her Spring/Summer 2014 collection will debut during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York later this month. Featuring the modest yet edgily sophisticated designs of ingénue, Nailah Lymus, the highly anticipated presentation will take place on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at the Alchemical Theatre, located at 104 W 14th Street in the city’s trendy West Village.
Known for creating modest yet fashion forward apparel, Amirah Creations is an established brand who has successfully shown collections around the United States and most recently in Indonesia. The brand targets women who seek quality fabrications, great fit, en trend styling all the while conforming to a more modest style of dress. The Spring/Summer 2015 collection, entitled Equanimity, is inspired by a woman who leads a stress free, fashionable life. She cares about her presentation, making a statement with her style yet refused to make things complicated and uncomfortable. She will not be identified as a follower but rather defined by her individuality. The collection is for women in all stages of life…mother, wife, career woman, socialite and of course…fashionista.
This season, Nailah Lymus will be co-presenting her collection with Australian-based designer Amalina Aman. Showcasing her self-titled line, Amalina is well known throughout Asia and Australia for creating beautiful, feminine and modest yet chic clothing. Drawing inspiration from cultural (Malay/Cocos/Australian) and familial ties, Aman will debut her collection entitled Enchanting Romance. This particular collection was inspired by history, nature and art. Amalina find the motivation for her fashion from everything around—from works of art in a museum to the beaches of her native Keeling Island to her mother and grandmother who serve as her muses. Amalina Aman is for today’s woman.
Nailah Lymus, who in addition to being a designer is the founder of modest modeling agency, Underwraps Agency (www.theunderwrapsagency.com) is casting and producing this season’s presentation. Both designers have teamed with the famed Japanese creative services agency, Augment (http://augment.cc), who will be creating hair and make-up magic for the showcase.
