Join Hearts of Gold at “Walk For Kids” Supporting NYC’s Homeless Families

NEW YORK CITY– Hearts of Gold (, a not-for-profit organization that fosters sustainable change in lifestyle and levels of self-sufficiency for homeless mothers and their children, invites the community to participate in the organization’s fourth annual “Walk for Kids” Fundraiser.
“This year, Hearts of Gold celebrates 20 years of bringing joy and confidence to homeless families. Register to walk with us, or donate to help improve the lives of New York City’s homeless mothers and children, by visiting,” said Deborah Koenigsberger, Founder & Executive Director of Hearts of Gold.
The one mile Walk will be held in New York’s Riverside Park on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. Enter the Walk by visiting and clicking on the 2014 Walk logo, or enter on the morning of the Walk between 8:00 and 8:45 a.m. ($10 youth; $25 adult). Check-in for pre-registered participants begins at 8:00 a.m. Entrance to the Park is at 83rd Street and Riverside Drive. Fundraisers along with moms and kids from the shelters the organization supports will walk along a one-mile path through the park. At the finish line, participants will celebrate with games, prizes and refreshments. Proceeds fund Hearts of Gold’s children’s programs at the organization’s adopted shelters, which include providing school supplies and clothing, after-school activities, tutoring, meals, summer camp scholarships and day trips to cultural attractions.
Celebrity participants in the Walk include Rhonda Ross, an Emmy Award nominated actress and singer/entertainer, who will be performing the National Anthem; and Amy Carlson, star of the CBS hit show Blue Bloods, who will assist in starting the race.
Founded in 1994, Hearts of Gold has raised more than $7 million to help homeless New York City families exit the city’s shelters and thrive on their own. The organization supports more than 1,000 mothers and children in residence annually in shelters operated by Nazareth Housing, Semiperm and Freedom House. Since 1994 through partnerships with Family Respite Center, Alexander Abraham Residence, Icahn House, Semiperm, Nazareth Housing and Barrier Free Living shelters coupled with unique Hearts of Gold programs, Hearts of Gold has impacted the lives of approximately 30,000 families in the greater New York City area. In 2001, Hearts of Gold was recognized by the Internal Revenue
Service as a 501 (c) (3) organization. The Hearts of Gold Fresh Start University, the organization’s most recent initiative seeks to create lasting changes in women’s lifestyles, education and levels of self-sufficiency.
